Organisation details

Description

VINE is a regional grant-making charity whose funds are raised by the production and sale of simulation spectacles (sim-specs). Members are mainly professionals and those working in the field of visual disability.

The sim-specs give an idea of what it is like to have various eye conditions and they can be bought individually or as a package. A DVD is also available to accompany the sim-specs.

VINE also produces a directory of useful services to blind and partially sighted people in the North East.

VINE arrange quarterly regional meetings. They also consider and give out grants of up to £500 twice a year (March and October) for the purpose of helping people to lead a more fulfilling life.

Although now retired, I used to work for a local charity to advise/assist disabled people for 22 years. Over this time I used the Simulation 'specs' to demonstrate the difficulties faced by visually impaired people to great effect with carers, children and local councillors. I applaud the work done by VINE.
