Organisation details

Braeside House is Scotland’s only specialist provider of nursing home care for older people with sight loss. Purpose built and opened in 1998, it has two floors with 35 single en-suite bedrooms. Each floor is divided into three units with its own dining and sitting room, so that care can be carried out in small living areas. There is easy access to bath and shower facilities.

The whole building is designed and fitted out to be accessible and easy to navigate for visually impaired residents. We have a sensory garden and a large roof garden.

Residents receive 24 hour supervision by Registered Nurses supported by care and domestic staff. The services of the resident’s own General Practitioner may be retained; otherwise, the Home’s Doctor visits regularly or as necessary. There is also routine contact with the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion. Other services include chiropody, hairdresser, physiotherapy, and regular activities.
